Mrs. Obama not everthing is about race.

There have been many time throughout my forty years that race has not been part of the American fabric.  Of course, my experience with race is nothing like what my parents witnessed in the 1950s and 60s.  In the last couple of years there has been a wave of race coming back up within the American conversation again.  It’s not just conversation, yet we are seeing protest along with the unfortunate side effect of violence.  The cause is less important than who may be helping to feud it in this day and age.  In the civil rights movement of my parents youth it was the “separate but equal” supported by the Supreme Court.  Americans such as, Martin Luther King Jr.  showed all people that it is not by violence that we receive justice it is by peaceful protest that justice will be served.  “I’m not comparing what anybody has gone through [to] slavery,” Beck clarified. “Or [saying it’s the] same as what Martin Luther King went through. But we’re not the country of Martin Luther King’s time anymore! We are being dragged back to those days.” (Beck)  Glenn Beck was referring to the speech that Michelle Obama gave at Tuskegee University.  Michelle Obama made her speech sound as if we are still within the days of separate schools and water fountains of the 50s and 60s.
We are not the Americans we once were in those days.  We are better than that or at least we should be able to recognize when we are being race baited.  Yes I am white, I am Christian and I am a Conservative.  This doesn’t mean I instantly hate people of color.  No, I grew up in a home Mrs. Obama that instantly hated you or anyone else because you are black.  No, Mrs. Obama I don’t think that the riots in Ferguson or Baltimore is how the people are reacting.  We can have peaceful demonstration without violence.  What we can’t abide by is people like yourself, Al Sharpton and Jesse Jackson telling us that we are separate and we couldn’t possibly understand.
